Kindergarten 2020

Enrolling your child in 2020

Students whose home address falls within the Laguna Street drawing area have automatic right of entry. Remaining positions may be allocated to out of area applicants. All out of area applications are considered by the Placement Panel members in light of the priority criteria listed on the Expression of Interest application.

The process

To secure your Kindergarten enrolment, you must follow these steps:

  • Short listed out of area applicants are invited to an interview that will be conducted by the principal or nominee.
  • The Principal / nominee will make recommendations to the Placement Panel after assessing information from all stages of the application process i.e. application and interview.
  • Successful applicants will be offered a place in the following year's intake.
  • Unsuccessful applicants will be advised of the process outcome and placed on a waiting list in priority order.
  • Application packages are available at the office from May 2018.

    In area applicants
The school office will make contact with parents to organise an interview time once all documentation has been submitted. Interviews will be held on nominated days and will take place early Term 3.

General information

We have put together some information to help you and your child become familiar with the routines at our school.
Please feel free to speak to your child's teacher if you have any concerns and inform us if your child has special needs or has received any intervention prior to school, such as speech therapy. We hope you find this information helpful.

Class newsletter

A class newsletter will be sent home each week via Skoolbag, usually on a Monday, to keep you informed of what's happening in the classroom as well as school related organisation. It's a good idea if you work out a special place in your child's bag for all notes to be placed. Then your child will know where to put all notes and you'll know where to find them.

Morning procedure

The morning bell rings at 9:20am. Please have your child at school before this time. When the children arrive at school, they are to put their bag along the wall or on the seat outside the classroom and put their name badge on.

If they arrive before the 9am bell, they are to sit on the seats outside Block H where a teacher will be on duty from 8:50am. The children are to then come to the middle playground where all the other children are playing. When the bell rings they walk to their class teacher when directed, and then to the classroom. If your child is unsettled, you are welcome to walk to the classroom with the class.

Note: if your child is settled and happy to play with his/her friends, it's a good idea if you leave before the bell.

Afternoon procedure

The children will be dismissed from the bottom playground at 3:15pm (5 minutes prior to the rest of the school). Please assist by waiting in the bottom playground and not coming near the classroom as this can often be very distressing for the children (when they see you they will want to go immediately) and this makes it difficult for us to establish routines.

Important note: children can be collected from their classroom on wet days at 3:20pm.

If your child is attending after school care, please notify the class teacher in writing. A teacher will walk the children to the collection point. In general, please notify Primary OSH Care (POSH) if you make any change to the routine, including not attending due to an absence from school.

Lunch/morning tea

For morning tea, please:

  • Send drinks, either water or juice, to school each day. An extra bottle of water (pop top only) can be sent for use in the classroom.
  • Pack morning and lunch in separate containers until your child knows the difference. We prefer morning tea to be packed in a paper bag labelled with their name, as this enables the children to be more independent and avoids confusion at eating times.
  • Be guided by what your child is eating and adjust the amount of food you send to school accordingly. Please avoid junk food in their lunch boxes. An occasional treat is fine, but we are trying to encourage healthy eating habits.

Note: please do not send peanut butter, nutella, whole nuts or seafood products to school as we have a number of children and staff who are highly allergic to these products.

Canteen

The children may order their morning tea, lunch or an iceblock for lunch. It would be helpful if you could place the order at the canteen for your child. Later in the year the children can take this responsibility for themselves.

Please note: children are not allowed to buy food for their friends or share their food with others.

Library

Please leave your child's library bag in their school bag ready for library day. We'll let you know what day of the week it will be as soon as the timetable is finalised.

Sport day

The children can wear their sports uniform to school on Thursday in Week 1. Please note that sport day for Kindergarten may change but we'll notify you if this happens.

Primary OSH care

Primary OSH care (POSH) operates a quality before and after school centre on our school premises. Before school care is provided from 6:30am to 9am and after school care is provided from 3:20pm until 6:30pm. For more information, visit primaryoshcare.com.au. Please notify POSH and your child's teacher if routines change.

Basic requirements

Please ensure that your child comes to school each day with a hat, jumper and a raincoat so they are prepared for all weather conditions. A spare pair of underpants in a plastic bag is also a good idea. All clothing must to be labelled.

Your child(ren) also need:

  • A painting shirt with their name written across the front
  • Library bag
  • 1 large box of tissues.

We are looking forward to providing a great start to your child's school education.
